CHATEAU COUTET 1948

Sauternes Barsac

Premier Cru Barsac - Sauternes

France - Bordeaux - Sweet

73 cl - Around 13% vol.

Thomas Wine tasting notes :

This wine was refilled, recorked and tasted at the castle in 2001 with 5 others bottles (One case) This explain the perfect level for this bottle. LEVEL INTO NECK (outstanding level)

The year 1948 is sandwiched between two exceptional years for Sauternes : 1947 and 1949.

Wine tasted twice... in 2000 and 2001 :

Bottled by "Comptoir Vinicole Girondin"

Deep bronzed color in the bottle. Become amber and more shiny in the glass with traces of brilliance inside and around the disc.

First nose : iodize (from the ocean), light mucat grapes certainly due to proportion of muscadelle in the wine). Rich, concentrated.

Second nose : alcohol, honey on old wood.

Tasting : The wine keep his softness but after half of a century has now lost almost all its sugar. The flacon is almost dry... a wine like the french likes to drink with fish in the twenties (1920)

Developping slowly in the glass...the nut appear. On the palate fresh and well balanced... the wine is still full of life

Dry final, good length, hints of medicinal flavors (the first iodize nose is becoming stronger).

After 1h30 in the glass tea flavors appears. Tea.
